Biographical Notes:
Thompson came to Mecklenburg county from Raleigh, NC. His nickname at Davidson was "Bull." He was considered a born athlete and received a "D" in both football and baseball his first year.

After leaving Davidson, he was head coach of football and baseball at North Carolina A. & E. And later had the same position at Wake Forest.

He died going over "No Man's Land" on 9/13/1918. He is buried at the St. Mihiel American Cemetery in Thiaucourt, France.

When the war was over, his mother chose not to go visit his grave in the 1930 pilgrimage offered by the U. S. government.
