Desegregation of interstate travel
Interstate buses desegregated: January 5, 1956. Wilbert Martin, a bus porter, holds old signs and looks at the new sign at the Charlotte bus station. Although buses that travel between states are now desegregated, segregation is still the law for in-state travel.
Independence Boulevard cuts through the city

Rev. Coleman Kerry
Rev. Colemon Kerry, Jr., pastor of Friendship Baptist Church, is defeated in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School Board election by anti-busing opponents. He was the first and only black member to serve on the board, having been appointed in the late 1960s to fill a vacancy.
State senator Jim Richardson

Bynum talks about her friend
1989 - Bynum organizes SAVE - Students Against Violence Everywhere. After Alex Orange from West Charlotte is killed when he tries to break up an off-campus fight, his friend Angie Bynum organizes SAVE. It soon becomes a national organization.

May 1993 - The Charlotte Hornets make it to the NBA playoffs. 
May 1775 - Charlotte's Committee of Safety, men who keep order among the citizens, learns that Britain's Parliament has decreed the colonists are in a state of actual rebellion. The Crown will not tolerate this revolt against its authority and will send troops to suppress the uprisings.

August 16, 1780 - More than four years after colonists proclaimed their independence from Britain, fighting continues. Soldiers in the Southern American army, commanded by General Horatio Gates, are defeated by British troops at Camden, South Carolina.
