Newspaper Delivery Men
'They Have Made The Caduceus Famous.' These men helped carry the newspaper to a ninety mile radius of Charlotte. The newspaper was selling almost 10,000 copies a week by September, 1918.

Sallie Phelps and the Brevard Street Library for Negroes

Brevard Street Library for Negroes was the first public library for blacks in North Carolina. Vermelle Diamond

Vermelle Diamond, crowned queen of the Queen City Classic, 1947. The Queen City Classic was the annual football game between rival high schools Second Ward and West Charlotte. The Eastland mall opened in 1975. It occupied 90 acres of land in East Charlotte, bounded by Central Avenue, Sharon Amity Road, and Wilora Lake Road. It closed in 2010, and the City of Charlotte acquired the property and demolished the buildings.
