Dormitory Room in Elizabeth College. Elizabeth College was located on Hawthorne Road. It opened in 1896. This popular school for girls remained in Charlotte until 1915.

Leonard Cooper Cooke was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1877. He first appeared in Charlotte in 1915. His studio was first located in his home at 324 North Tryon Street (1) Cooke later would open a studio at 1702 E. 4th Street, where he remained until his retirement in 1946.
Alton Wells Franklin was born in Chesterfield, Virginia in 1878. While living in Petersburg, Virginia, he met and married his first wife, Claudia B. Willis. Around 1908, Franklin became an itinerant partner with a Mr.
In 1902, the Mother’s Study Club in Charlotte re-organized and expanded its membership as well as its civic activities to include all women, hence its new name, the Charlotte Women’s Club. Dr.
Readman first appears in the Charlotte directory around 1899. ( 1) Born in New York in April of 1851, his father was from England and his mother was a New Yorker. Readman dabbled in the theatrical business and worked in newspapers in California. He arrived in Charlotte in 1896.
Born in Raleigh on December 24, 1863 , Thomas Skinner Franklin was the son of an Englishman, and his mother was from Virginia. He came to Charlotte in 1880, and married Luella Lidell in 1891. Franklin owned his own insurance company and was active in local politics.

The Stratford Hotel was located at 227 North Tryon Street. It had thirty-seven rooms and was completed in 1899. It was originally called the Leland Hotel. In the 1915-1916 Charlotte City Directory, it was known as the Tryon Hotel.
From 1941 to 1971, the baseball stadium was known as Clark Griffith Stadium in honor of the Washington, DC baseball owner.
Located in the 400 block of North College Street, this series of buildings was a former automobile service station and paint store. Since the mid 1990s, it has been a restaurant and bar.

Violinist Don Richardson was originally from Clinton, North Carolina, but made his home in Charlotte beginning in 1900 at the age of 22. For ten years, he lived in New York City and worked as a conductor. He is reported to have taught 2,900 students during his career.
Myers Park was the second subdivision Prior to that it has been the estate of John Springs Myers which dated back to 1870. By 1883, Myers moved his family to what is now 804 East Trade Street.

Leon Ernest Seay was born in Lynchburg, Virginia in 1862. He began work as a photographer sometime in the 1890s. Seay came to Charlotte in 1906 and formed a partnership with Charles W. Eutsler. Together they ran a studio from Eutsler’s home at 21 North Tryon Street until 1910.
