North Tryon Street was decorated with flags and banners in honor of Mecklenburg Declaration Day which was celebrated on May 20-22, 1902. This photograph was labeled as man No. 905, published by the International Post Card Company in New York. The card stock was made in Germany.
Postcard captures the third and fourth Mecklenburg County Courthouses. On the right is the third courthouse that was located at Church and Trade Streets. Each of the tall, white columns were made from a single pine tree then stuccoed after being milled. It gave the appearance of marble.

Located on Independence Boulevard, Ovens Auditorium and the first Charlotte Coliseum were completed in 1955. The auditorium was named for David Ovens, a longtime supporter of cultural events. The Charlotte Merchandise Mart can also be seen in this postcard.
