Growing up in Charlotte

Gerson: I was born in Charlotte and I lived in the community called Third Ward. This is a section where the new Ericsson Stadium is located.

Daisy: We lived in a real big house on 7^th Street, (pictured above) and everything happened in the house. We had our family there, and my mother was determined that we would not only share the family there, we would share our friends there. If you look at the awning, if look right on the sign that is right there, that says, “Daisy’s Beauty Shop.” My mother had a beauty shop in the side of her house. My mother was a registered nurse, she was a certified teacher, she was a licensed beautician, but she always did her work at home.
