- In 1960, Gantt is quarterback and class salutatorian at Charleston's all-black Burke High School.
- Unable to attend the segregated universities of South Carolina, Gantt enrolls at a midwestern university. Gantt, however, does not give up.
- Three years later, after a federal appeals court decision, he becomes the first black student to enroll at Clemson College.
- He will later graduate with a degree in architecture. Photo shows Gantt in his high school football uniform.
