October 30, 1987 - The busing debate reemerges.
- With a new generation of parents and many newcomers in Charlotte, busing or "pupil assignment" comes under debate once again. As the city has grown, the busing plan has become more cumbersome. In May 1988, several School Board candidates will run on anti-busing platforms.
- Vice-Chairperson of the School Board Arthur Griffin (pictured) meets with black neighborhood leaders to discuss the problems integration faces in the late 1980s. Black residents are concerned about lengthy bus rides and the standard of education.
