Southern Railroad Station and Stonewall Hotel
The Southern Railway Station and Stonewall Hotel were located in the 500 block of West Trade Street
Latta Park Baseball Field
Baseball was the sport in Charlotte as well as the United States at the beginning of the 1900s. In Dilworth, there were at least three ball fields. In 1902 the 4 C's granted a 10-year lease for the fairgrounds and the baseball field seen here. Located on the far end of East Boulevard, maps suggest home plate was east of Lennox Avenue. The park probably extended from near East Boulevard to Lennox Avenue.
Lakewood Pavilion and Boaters
The Lakewood Pavilion opened in July of 1909. Built by the Four C's, the park expanded overtime to include a rollercoaster, a merry-go-round and other amusement rides as well as exotic animals and a vast garden. Located in West Charlotte, visitors could take a trolley to the park to enjoy a boat ride on the lake or a dance in the pavilion. During the Great Depression, the park fell into disrepair and a flood caused the dam to burst and the lake disappeared. The rest of buildings were eventually demolished.

Hotel Charlotte
The Hotel Charlotte opened is doors in 1923. It was located at the corner of West Trade and Poplar Streets. The hotel was the most popular hotel in Charlotte. During the 1920s, the Hotel Charlotte was site of an early recording studio. Bill Monroe, the Delmore Brothers and other country music legends made their early recordings at the hotel. It was demolished in 1988.
Elizabeth Avenue Neighborhood
Driving down East Trade Street, the name changes to Elizabeth Avenue once crossing Kings Drive. Once lined lined with lovely houses, the area has changed since the late 1920s.
Piedmont and Northern Railway Advertisement
Interesting advertisement for the Piedmont and Northern Railway that pointed out a point of interest for tourists, in this case, the Mint Museum of Fine Art.
Charlotte Motor Speedway
The Charlotte Motor Speedway is a track on the NASCAR circuit. Located between Charlotte and Concord, North Carolina, it is the site of the Coco-Cola 600 and other popular annual races. (THIS POSTCARD IS NOT AVAILABLE FOR REPRODUCTION.)
Mecklenburg County Courthouse
Postcard captures the third and fourth Mecklenburg County Courthouses. On the right is the third courthouse that was located at Church and Trade Streets. Each of the tall, white columns were made from a single pine tree then stuccoed after being milled. It gave the appearance of marble. When the courthouse was torn down, no one recalled this fact, and the workers were surprised to discover perfectly preserved trees beneath the stucco. It was torn down in 1898.
On the left is the fourth courthouse that is still located on East Trade Street. It opened in 1897.
