Charlotte Postcard Collection

A 1930 postcard advertising the amenities of the Hotel Charlotte and the city of Charlotte. Notes about the hotel from the card reads as follows,`Largest hotel in the Carolina's, 400 rooms, each with private bath: 78 per cent of the rooms are priced at $3.50 or less, 59 per cent at $3 or less, 25 per cent at the minimum rate of $2.50, single. Memorial Hospital was created in 1940 due in part to the trustees of St. Peter's Hospital, who worked to form the new medical facility. Today it is known as the Carolinas Medical Center. Physical Description: 3x5 Publisher: Dixie News Company

The Charles R. Jonas Federal Building is an historic two-story, limestone structure in the neo-classical design. Completed in 1915, it is located at 401 West Trade Street, in Charlotte. At various times it has served as a courthouse of the United States District Court for the Western District of North Carolina, and a United States post office. In 1975, the building was renamed in honor of long-serving North Carolina Congressman Charles R. Jonas, and was transferred to the city in exchange for land in the fall of 2005. The city lease the building to the federal government for continued use.

Stonewall Hotel and Annex was at 527 West Trade Street. The original hotel was built in 1907 and closed in 1958. Physical Description: 3x5 Publisher: S H Kress
