In a letter to his parents he writes of the French welcome for President Wilson at Brest. He also thanks the YMCA for their support and planned to work for them after his return in repayment. 'At present we are sleeping in the mud. We prefer to the hard barracks. He was predicted to go on to bridge-building and road construction. His name appeared on the Service Flag on 9/22/1918 of First Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, NC.
