On July 14 the Germans started their drive on Paris at Chateau Thierry. Lieutenant Borst was ordered to deliver ammunition to the 1st battalion, and had to go through the German barrage to reach them. He was badly wounded. Later he was transferreed out of the 30th Infantry as supply sergeatn and given orders to clear the Bartheville wood before midnight. He was in charge of several men. They became isolated and had no food or water for several days until a plane spotted them and reinforcements arrived. He was wounded 3 times and remained in a hospital for 3 months.
