Black soldiers and visitors, Camp Greene, NC
Black women visited their soldier friends and family who were stationed at Camp Greene. This photo was sent by Mrs. E. M. Townsend of New York to Col. A. C. Macomb to convince him to permit a Hostess House for colored women visiting Camp Greene. The white women already had a Hostess House. He approved the request on 10/10/1918 and gave them the house formerly used as a Hostess House for white troops.
