Death Details/Burial/Memorial Services: He was killed in an airplane accident. There is conflicting information about his funeral services and internment. They were either in Bluefield, W. VA. or Richmond, VA.

Clyde Saunders

Death Details/Burial/Memorial Services: Killed in action. Memorial marker at Sicily-Rome, Italy

Marshall Shepherd

Death Details/Burial/Memorial Services: He participated in 18 missions. He was a crew member of a B-17 Flying Fortress bomber that was hit by anti-aircraft fire over Bremen. Four men managed to bail out before the plane exploded. His plane was one of thirty bombers that were lost on that mission. A memorial service was held on 7-14-1946 at First Baptist Church.

Jenkins Robertson, Jr.

Death Details/Burial/Memorial Services: He moved to Charlotte from Charleston, SC. He had assumed the job as Assistant Control Officer at Dallas Love Field. He was killed when the Lockheed-Hudson B-34 plane he was a passenger in crashed two miles from Morris Field southwest of the runway after first circling the field. He was riding with pilot Joe F. Cannon, Jr. and co-pilot, J. R. Ibing. At the time of the crash, he was living at 2220 Malvern Rd., Charlotte. He had caught a ride with Cannon from Dallas to Charlotte to get his wife and children to move them to Dallas, TX.

Paul Scarborough

Death Details/Burial/Memorial Services: His patrol was pinned down by an enemy patrol, and he made a run for it, taking out the enemy post. He was mortally wounded. Buried in an Army Cemetery in Luxembourg. Memorial service at St. Martins Episcopal Church on Apr 8, 1945.

Alvin Sherrill

Death Details/Burial/Memorial Services: He was reported as MIA after landing in France on 6-11-1944. His status was later changed to POW in Germany, before his name appeared on the casualty list in The Charlotte Observer. NARA World War II Prisoners of War Data File states he was held at Stalag 4D in Elbe and later released.
