Wards, Camp Greene

Each building shown in the photos was built to hold 900 convalescing patients. They were part of 4 others built west of the already established hospital area. These two-story buildings contained sun porches and were connected by covered walkways. Each was estimated to cost $75,000. J. A. Jones Co. of Charlotte did the construction work.

Hospital Ward, Camp Greene, NC

This photo shows a typical Camp Greene ward. There were rows of bed by the windows with furnaces in the center of the room. The two nurses on the left are Misses Archer and Turner. The officers to their right are Lieutenants Lee and Miner. At the right of the picture is an orderly, Clayton Welch.
