Independence High School, located in Mint Hill, is home of the Patriots. The Mint Hill area was the home of several men known as the Mecklenburg signers.
"Mr. Harvey H. Orr`s White Steamer, which Represented Charlotte Chapter, D.A.R. in the parade. 1,500 white snowballs were utilized in its decoration. It is a fair example of the many elaborately decorated items in the parade." (No date)

President Gerald Ford was received by thousands of people crowded into Freedom Park for the Meck Dec bicentennial in 1975. The holiday was celebrated with the release of hundreds of balloons as a television station, WBTV, filmed the event.
