Central High School

Dowd House at Camp Greene

Built in 1879, this historic home was once at the center of a 250-acre farm. It was the childhood home of Willis Frank Dowd, founder of Charlotte Pipe and Foundry, and William Carey Dowd, former publisher of The Charlotte News. During the first World War, the Dowd House was used as the Headquaters for Camp Greene Army Training Base during World War I ( 1917-1919 ). Located at 2216 Monument Street, is the the oldest structure in West Charlotte and a museum. It is the only structure that is left from when the area was an Army Training Camp.

United States Post Office

Mint Museum of Art

Built in 1837, the United States Mint in Charlotte served the community for a number of years in different capacities. In the 1930s, the building was dismantled and moved to Randolph Road. Physical Description: 3x5 Publisher: Dixie News Company

United States Post Office & Courthouse

The Charles R. Jonas Federal Building is an historic two-story, limestone structure in the neo-classical design. Completed in 1915, it is located at 401 West Trade Street, in Charlotte. At various times it has served as a courthouse of the United States District Court for the Western District of North Carolina, and a United States post office. In 1975, the building was renamed in honor of long-serving North Carolina Congressman Charles R. Jonas, and was transferred to the city in exchange for land in the fall of 2005. The city lease the building to the federal government for continued use.

United States Mint

United States Post Office

Independence Building also known as Realty Building

Independence Building was Charlotte's first skyscraper. Originally known as the Realty Building was located at the corner of Trade and Tryon and was built in 1907. It was renamed the Independence Building in 1920 and was torn down in 1981 Physical Description: 3x5 Publisher: S H Kress
