Charles McManaway
Dr. Charles G. McManaway (1855-1918) came to Charlotte in 1888, and practiced medicine in the city for over thirty years. He was a charter member of the Mecklenburg Medical Society. Dr. McManaway was born in Bedford County, Virginia. He received his medical training at Baltimore College and the Medical College of Louisville, Kentucky.
Dr. McManaway was married twice. His first wife was Virginia Rella Harris who died in 1894. The couple had five children. On May 9, 1900 he married Josephine Pharr. The couple had one child, Hugh McManaway, born in 1912. The McManaway family lived in several homes in Charlotte. In 1901, they sold their home on East 6th Street and bought the Jacob Rintels house at 406 W. Trade Street. In 1914, the McManaways moved to a house on Hawthorne Lane in Charlotte. In 1916, the house was moved to a lot on Queens Road. The house is now designated as an historic property.
