From the Charlotte Home Democrat, May 29, 1885:
"Miss Annie Lowrie Alexander of Mecklenburg County passed an examination before the Board of Medical Examiners in Durham and was admitted as a member of the North Carolina Medical Association."
One of her first actions as a professional doctor was to deliver a lecture at the Farmer's Institute [2] in Concord, Cabarrus County in 1887.
It did not take long for the young doctor to establish her practice on North Tryon Street. She advertised [3] her services, and the local residents started to refer to her as "Dr. Annie [4]." She drove her buggy with her faithful horse, Conrad, all over the city and county attending women and children.
