1991 - NWCCDC is founded to revitalize northwest Charlotte.
- Working with both public and private groups, the Northwest Corridor Community Development Corporation [1] focuses on improving economic development and housing opportunities in 12 neighborhoods in northwest Charlotte.
- As part of their Home Ownership Program, the NWCCDC rehabs homes and duplexes for first-time home buyers. They also buy and rehab apartments with no rental increase.
- In December 1995, the first new major retail center in decades is opened on Beatties Ford Rd. Before this time, there was no decent food shopping within five miles, and residents had to leave the community to shop.
- In 1996 the first new home (pictured) is constructed in Washington Heights.
- Neighborhood activist Eleanor Washington shops at the Food Lion [2] she helped bring to the community.
