Tom Hanchett is the author of the definitive study, Sorting Out the New South City: Race, Class, and Urban Development in Charlotte, 1875-1975, now in a second edition (UNC Press, 2019). His talk, "Brooklyn to Biddleville" explores the growth of African American neighborhoods in Charlotte.
Tom Hanchett is serving as the Library's Historian-in-Residence this year and is the retired Historian of the Levine Museum of the New South.
