'His father was a graduate of West Point with the class of 1870, and served 20 years in the 8th Calvary, participinag in most of the Indian campaigns in Texas and New Mexico.''Soon after (Frederick) graduating, he enlisted in the Coast Artillery at Fort Monroe, Va., and was commissioned second lieutenant. In 1908 he was transferred to the Infantry, in which branch he served until he was detailed with the Signal Corps. He was one of the pioneer officers of the 3rd Casual Regiment of Motor Mechanics, organized at Camp Hancock.'
