He wrote a letter to The Charlotte Observer complimenting the southern hospitality that has been offered his sons, Bernard and Fred. He was an ex-sergeant of Troop A, Washington Cavalry National Guard. His son's compoany was formed from Troop A, Washington Calvary. Fred was in the Camp Green Base Hospital with spinal meningitis and received food and flowers from Charlotte women.
