Biographical Notes:
When his body washed ashore on a creek near Camp Greene, he was identified by a slip of paper in his trousers that said 'Regiment 14, Camp 4, Camp Greene, North Carolina,' ' Y.M.C.A. 104.' He was a new recruit from Newport, KY, who had come to camp in September 1st. He had been missing from camp since 9/4/1918 and was found on 9/10/1918. His body was badly decomposed. The coroner and other physicians could not find signs of foul play. He apparently committed suicide or had been accidentally drowned. His father sent a man from Newport, KY, to return his body to KY.
