He was from Texas and enlisted in the British Merchant Marines in 12/1914. While in the service he visited England, France, Africa, Eguypt, Sicily, Italy, Australia and New Zealand. His job included transporting mules, troops and food to the Allies for 19 months. His mates said he was the most perfect speciment of 'cactus' they had seen.
