He previously toured the United States with Gryl's famous band and was renown as a soloist. He composed music for band and orchestra. The 47th Infantry Band was one of the star musical groups of the two divisions that trained at Camp Greene. While serving in France, he received gas wounds. After teaching in Oklahoma, he came back to Charlotte in 1925 to teach cornet, clarinet and other wind instruments in the Gordon Music Academy.
