His diary of the service of Company F was published in the Charlotte Observer in 1920 under the title 'Over There for Uncle Sam.' It is reproduced in its entirety on the Doughboy website.The 1930 census reports he married at age 22 and had one son. Willard was working as a letter carrier for the Post Office and lived in Pasadena, CA.
