Biographical Notes:
He was a large Sioux Indian who served at Camp Greene as an M.P. for over a year. He served in an area called ' 'Provostville' ' on the old Carson lot, South Tryon and West First Street, and was there called 'Big Ben.' According to the newspaper story, he was taller by a head over any other man and was well educated. He liked Charlotte and wanted to come back and see people, once he returned home to Fort Totten, ND, his home. He liked performing in the Camp Greene Christmas celebrations. He was going back to farm in North Dakota but said he liked being a soldier.
