David L. Jones was the son of Wilburn Leroy and Epsy Louvina Cobb Jones. Jones did his basic training at Jefferson Barracks and Camp Greene. He was promoted to Sergeant on 8-2-1918. He was wounded in the shoulder at Marne, France in October of 1918. After receiving medical treatment at several hospitals in France, he returned to his unit on 1/1/1919. He was discharged as a casual in 4/1919 at Camp Jackson, SC. For his service, he was awarded the Purple Heart and a Battle Medal inscribed with six battles. His serial number was 546432. David L. Jones graduated with a degree in agriculture from North Carolina State College (University) on 5/29/1923. He became a Rater for the Veterans Administration after graduation. After serving as a supervisor of disabled veterans in vocational training and making field investigations, Jones retired from the VA in 1956. He attended the Third reunions in North Carolina and saw Lt. Hunneman from his outfit. He also saw Troy S. McCollum, who was wounded while a member of the 30th Infantry. Jones married Lucille Mae Tart in Raleigh, NC, and had three children. He once lived in Charlotte at 416 Woodvale Place. He is buried at Sharon Memorial Cemetery, Charlotte, NC.
