- A new US Supreme Court case, Green v. County School Board, determines that stronger measures must be taken.
- Charlotte attorney Julius Chambers meets with the NAACP Legal Defense Fund to determine the best cities in which to press for legal action. Chambers agrees to reopen the Swann case in Charlotte.
- Photo shows protesters demonstrating for stronger desegregation measures. The sign reads: "Black children fight for their parents' freedom."
