Cemeteries

Mason Cemetery

This cemetery may be also known as the Youngblood Cemetery, because the Youngblood family bought the property from the Mason family. There are also many Partlows buried in the cemetery. There appear to be some unmarked graves. It has a wire and stone fence around it. It was once at the top of rich farmland but is now at the edge of Lake Wylie. See also Youngblood Cemetery. This is at the end of the right fork of Youngblood Rd. N. as it deadends at Lake Wylie.

Mount Zion Baptist Church Memorial Gardens

There was originally a church and cemetery together. There is no evidence of the original church in 1999. There are several unmarked graves. Jane Johnson completed this list of burials in 7/2003. The cemetery is not visible from the road, but it is sometimes visible from I-85. There is a small, unkept dirt road that goes from Performance to the cemetery entrance. A sign and gate mark the entrance.

Oak Grove United Methodist Church

The church was organized in 1888. The cemetery and church are not located together. To reach the cemetery from the church, go north on Old Statesville Rd. Turn right on Henderson Rd. then make an immediate left. The cemetery will be on the right and can be seen from the road. It is fenced and locked, so arrangements need to be made with the church to enter the cemetery.

Oaklawn Cemetery

This cemetery is now owned by the City of Charlotte. It was established in 1915 by J. J. Misenheimer. The cemetery was deeded to the City of Charlotte in 1956 by Mrs. Adele Lynch Hendrix. The Carolina Room has a list of some interments.  This cemetery can be seen from Oaklawn Ave.

McClintock Presbyterian Church and Cemetery

The church building was formerly a Rosenwald School. The church was founded in 1865. This is not a complete list of burial records. Mary Beth Gatza abstracted this list of burials, which may be incomplete. The cemetery is to the side of the church and is visible from the street.
