Entry and Hall
As you enter the house, you will notice a long staircase. It leads upwards to the caretaker's quarters, which is not open to the public. The stairs replace the original ones in the 1879 Dowd farmhouse, but they still occupy the same position in the hall. The use of the opposing front and rear doors of the entry hall provides ventilation important to homes of this era. The exterior door goes to the back porch, which has a ramp for visitors with wheel chairs and strollers.
