Death Details/Burial/Memorial Services: His wife published Philippine Postscripts to give to ~800 families of men captured by the Japanese in the Battle of the Philippines. Grimes was executed while a Japanese POW held in the Philippines. Wife later moved to Ft. McClellan, AL.

Walter Gurley

Death Details/Burial/Memorial Services: He was killed in action at the Battle of Midway when his bomber, which carried Major General Clarence Tinker, crashed into the sea. Gilmer Holton, his roommate from Davidson College and Hickam Air Field, Oahu, was also killed. His memorial service held at Belmont Park Methodist Church on March 17, 1946.His memorial marker is at the Punchbowl National Cemetery in Honolulu, HI. He has a tombstone in the Mimosa Cemetery in Davidson, NC.

Death Details/Burial/Memorial Services: Killed in a plane crash on September 28 during a routine flight in Florida. Funeral in Jacksonville, FL with interment at Oaklawn Cemetery.

James Heins, Jr.

Death Details/Burial/Memorial Services: He died from wounds he received in his tank. He was leading his company when the tank was hit by an anti-tank gun. Members of his crew took him out of the tank and into a basement where other wounded were. He was injured internally and even though given first aid, he died shortly thereafter. He was buried in the U. S. Military Cemetery in Henri-Chapelle, Belgium

Claude Hackney, Jr.

Death Details/Burial/Memorial Services: He was on a strafing mission near Bonn, Germany when his plane was shot down. Memorial marker in the Netherlands. Enlisted in the Army in 1942 before transferring.
