At the time of his death, he was designated by his crew as a group leader. He was buried in the American Military Cemetery in Cambridge, England, plot E, row 3, grave 22. A memorial service and mural unveiling were held at Dilworth Methodist Church on 10-7-1945.

Plane was heading back across the English Channel when the engine caught fire and several crew members parachuted out.
